A Fable: The King & The Fortune Teller
This was 1/2 self-motivated and 1/2 a response to a brief. The brief was to create a piece of work around the subject of poverty, which is an incredibly loaded subject matter that I decided to subvert it a bit. This tale revolves around an anti-hero, who is a poor fortune teller traveling through an unfamiliar land. Each page is illustrated with a collage of 2-D and 3-D elements assembled together digitally.

Pieces from Species of Spaces
This piece won the 2011 SMIBE (The Society for Moving Images about the Built Environment) competition and was selected for the 2014 ArCH Film Festival in Houston, TX. The brief was for a 3 minute piece about revolutionary ideas surrounding “the built world.” Instead of choosing an architect, designer, or building, I chose to highlight Georges Perec’s book Species of Spaces. Length: 3:16.

Arcanum 17
A video piece based on a passage taken from the book Arcanum 17 by the French surrealist writer André Breton. A long-form prose poem, in this section he describes the titular tarot card, The Star – the 17th card of the of the major arcana. The book was composed while staying in Canada during World War II with his new love (and eventual third wife) Elisa Claro. Prior to meeting Elisa, Breton had been left by his wife and who had taken their young daughter along with her. The book is a meditation on love, loss, and rebirth. The final sentence in this piece is the first sentence to the next passage in the book – linking the symbolic to the real. Length: 4:41.

Fountains
Part of an exploration of the electronic book that evolved into a series of media pieces based on different chapters from J.B. Priestley’s Delight. It was an investigation on how media could be used to illustrate and inform the written word. Fountains is a 1024x768 pixel Flash piece rendered with high definition video. Each ‘page’ features a one minute piece that is an amalgamation of animated collages, typography, sound, and video. As the reader clicks to a new page the text appears and builds in conjunction with the imagery. The music was produced with various samples from The Blue Hungarian Band. Above is the fully animated title sequence.

Orchestras Creeping in to Piano
Part of an exploration of the electronic book that evolved into a series of media pieces based on different chapters from J.B. Priestley's Delight. It was an investigation on how media could be used to illustrate and inform the written word. Orchestra Creeping in to Piano is a 7 minute short film. Instead of doing a literal illustration
of the words, I produced and filmed the production of a mixed media piece (ink, charcoal, watercolor) that mirrored the layering of the instruments that Priestley describes. Likewise, the audio component is comprised
of a series of loops I sampled by the following artists: Max Richter, Balmorhea, Jimmy Giuffre, Chet Baker,
The Appleseed Cast.
